The main thing is how this bag performs for a camping trip. It performs admirably. The outer shell is rip-resistant and water-resistant.
If you do happen to get damp, it can easily be unzipped and aired.
The synthetic lining and insulation drying in next to no time. Even with a mix of cotton, this wasn’t enough to hamper drying performance, and it did help keep things nice and toasty once inside the wide sleeping bag.
When you are on the move, it comes with its stuff sack and rolls up to a small size so that it won’t become burdensome.

2. TETON Sports Mammoth Queen-Size Double Sleeping Bag; Warm and Comfortable for Family Camping
The Teton Sports sleeping bag was a bit of a disappointment when we tested. It was bulky, and trying to get it back in the stuff sack was almost impossible.
That was the only thing, although it was warm, it was huge and is far suited to car camping than by anyone hitting the trails.
We also found that the outer shell wasn’t as hardy as you’d expect and digging into the conditions, we found the warranty will be void if you attempt to wash the sleeping bag.

While there are some nice added features, they seem to be there because the bag doesn’t perform as well as it should. Velcro to hold the zippers in position and the draught tubes, which made it a little awkward to move.

The Ohuhu sleeping bag is at the budget end of the market, and as they say, you do get what you pay for. It also has a couple of inclusions. More expensive models don’t supply. Pillows being one, and although small, they are included.
This sleeping bag was also very light, and almost half as heavy as some of the competition.
The most significant drawback on this Queen size sleeping bag being the cotton lining; if this was to get damp, it could take far too long to dry while on a camping trip. Even if conditions were damp, you might begin to feel uncomfortable after a while.

This double-wide sleeping bag delivers plenty of insulation, but if temperatures were down to the rated warmth, it might be a different matter. It is more suited to cooler nights rather than cold.
The flannel lining does make things feel comfortable, but as to the degree of water resistance, it could be hard to dry quickly. It is also another sleeping bag which is extremely heavy, so it isn’t ideal for backpackers or camping on foot.
We also found you can’t convert it into two bags, but you can fasten it to another for the entire family. This may be a problem, depending on the size of your tent.

Being one of the biggest names in camping gear, we held high expectations for their contribution to these sleeping bag reviews. However, with a low guide price of around $60, there weren’t too many expectations.
While it is a large bag and can accommodate adults up to 6ft, 4in, we still found it wasn’t suitable for backpacking or trekking conditions.
While the weight was more manageable to contend with, this large bag may be too bulky to carry comfortably.
The patented zipper design, or the design to get material out of the way was good, but the zippers appear weak.

The one included with this sleeping bag was the detachable inner lining. This is to deliver extra warmth by offering layers, but it was more of a hindrance, and once it was removed, it was hard to get back inside the bag.
For one of the more prominent names in camping, we were expecting much more from the Coleman tandem sleeping bag, even if it is a budget option.
They have more than enough manufacturing experience to deliver something a little more worthy.
What to Look For When Buying a Sleeping Bag for Two
When looking for an extra-wide sleeping bag for two, there are some factors you need to consider. Some of these are much the same as looking for a single person sleeping bag, but there are some slight differences.
Here we will run through all you need to know about purchasing an extra wide sleeping bag for two.
Sleeping Bag Weight
While it may not appear to be much of a weight difference between some of the sleeping bags on the test. It can quickly make a difference if you are hiking for a distance.
While there aren’t as many double sleeping bags around, they are there, and as you can see from some of the weights, they are just not made for backpacking.
Weight will be an issue, because you can quickly find the difference between a sleeping bag which is just light, and a high-quality one which is well thought out.
Size and Bulk
This follows on from weight, and unless you are spending hundreds on a Sierra Designs backcountry bed, You can quickly end up with something bulky. One double sleeping bag won’t fold down to anywhere near a single person sleeping bag.
Many come with a compression sack to cut down on this, but there are physical factors that prevent them from going too small.
Shell Material Composition
This needs to be tough. With two people inside, they can take more abuse than single sleeping bags. Here are common materials used in the shell outers.
- Nylon – this is the toughest and, to an extent, abrasion-resistant. When woven tightly, it becomes water-resistant and wind-resistant.
- Polyester – this has natural wicking ability and is often used in sports gear. Even the high-value Sierra Designs backcountry bed duo uses polyester for this very reason. Although, you do end up paying for their privilege.
- Ripstop – this is woven into the other materials to prevent tears and rips. This is handy as it increases durability. The additional advantage is, it adds hardly any extra weight.
- DWR – This isn’t material. As such, it is the coating that delivers water resistance. Sleeping bags do need to have some element of water resistance.
Temperature Ratings
This can be quite hard when dealing with double sleeping bags because there is your partner to consider. A few factors to think about are:
- The time of year you’re camping?
- Are you a cold sleeper? Are you warm-blooded?
- What ground pad type will you be using?
- Where you will be sleeping will also have an impact, are you undercover, or will you be in a tent?
If you are a 3 season backpacker, then a 30-degree temperature rated sleeping bag should suffice, although a 20 degrees bag may be better in colder conditions. To top this, there are also ratings for a sleeping pad, which will have an impact.
Insulation Materials
This is what will keep you soft and warm, and not all insulation is as good as each other. Here are the common insulation materials:

It also fell into the affordable range when it comes to cost, and even the more expensive options were unable to match performance.
